Leonard Dworkin aka Leonard Wolff
died early Friday evening on June 5,1998. Leonard joined the TES Board of Directors in 1991. He was instrumental in the growth of the TES newsletter Prometheus into a prominent national publication that contained quality information on SM. He had a knack for attracting great artists and writers. Leonard was also member of GMSMA
as well as the National Leather Association at both the local
and national levels. He started and maintained the NLA-friends
email list. Later he started the sm-org, sm-act and nysma
lists. Together with Susan Wright, Leonard co-founded New York S/M Activists (NYSMA)in January 1997. One of his latest projects was the free bi-monthly newsletter, New York Leather/SM which he started with seed money from the David Weinbaum Memorial Foundation. Leonard was instrumental in planning the annual Leather Pride Night Auction and, together with Michele, built the raffle into a huge moneymaker. He was on the committee for International Leather Celebration in 1994 and was key to TES-25 where he was in charge of creating the memorable Pleasure Zone dungeon. Leonard will be remembered not only as an activist but as a party person who helped throw the best private play party NYC has ever seen back in 1992 when an entire floor in his building was vacated. Leonard, Michele and Lolita also threw Bondage Socials on Sundays which gave insiders in the scene an informal way to get together and play. He loved to play, especially enjoying rope and electricity, and loved to share his knowledge and skills freely with others. And Leonard instigated numerous Kinky Kultural Excursions to local events that tinged on the SM-fetish side of life. After Leonard left the TES board in 1997, he was made an Emeritus board member. He then helped form a new smaller social club called Pariahs MC and claimed the title of Emperor. There are many people that considered Leonard a trusted mentor. He will be greatly missed by us all.
