What's a TES Meeting Like?
First of all you are never forced to say or do anything at a TES meeting. It's a completely safe space. If all you want to do is sit and watch, that's just fine. There is no dress code. Some people are dressed from work, some are casual, some wear leather or fetish clothes. There are singles as well as couples. All sexual orientations are welcome. Attendance runs from 15 people to 50 depending on the meeting.
TES meets at various locations, check the calendar for the exact location and/or visit the contact page to see the addresses where we meet most often. Our Tues and Wed meetings are held at 260 w 36th street, on the 3rd Floor . Doors open at 7:30. Non-members Donations $8 (members of TES and other leather/fetish organizations $4) at the door. Once inside you can visit our community table where you can pick up our free literature, including the TES Calendar, as well as info from various different local and national BDSM/Fetish groups.
Many people socialize until the presentation starts at 8pm. At 8:00 pm the "Board Member on Duty" or "BOD" will make some announcements and welcome everyone. The BOD is one of our 10 elected current members of our Board of Directors or sometimes a Board Member Emeritus. We make sure that there is always a TES leader available at every meeting to help you if you have any problems or questions. The program begins and usually lasts about one hour. Every meeting is different - depending on the topic and the presenter(s). Sometimes there is a sole speaker, a panel or a demo. .
After the presentation, we take a quick 5-10 minute smoke/bathroom break and then it's time for the famous TES Circle. TES started in 1971 with a small group of masochists who would get together and talk about their interests in a circle format. We honor that tradition today by putting our chairs in a circle and giving everyone the opportunity to speak their mind, ask questions or just listen. We start out by going once around the circle, giving everyone the opportunity to say their name and what they are into. It is okay to just say "pass" or use a pseudonym or say that you are new and exploring. It is interesting to hear who's into what. Then after we have gone around once, we have an open discussion on any topics. Because there are so many people, the people that wish to speak must raise their hands and be called on.
Afterwards we often will go out to a restaurant for coffee or snacks or dinner and hang out and talk some more.
