The 2nd Annual NY S/M Film Festival's Kick-Off Gala and Fundraiser
A final tally shows that the 2nd Annual NY S/M Film Festival's Kick-Off
Gala and Fundraiser brought in a very generous $1,166.82, which
has been divided in half and presented to the National Coalition
for Sexual Freedom and to the Leather Archives & Museum. Many thanks
to everyone who attended for their fantastic generosity. And also
to our auction donors and volunteers, who gave up the goods, time
and, in some instances, the body hair, that made the event possible
in the first place!
NY S/M Film
Festival sends films to the LA&M In addition to the annual shipment
of film festival ephemera, the film festival also sent a copy of
The Night Porter and Happy Birthday. Special thanks go to director
Antonia Kao for donating a copy of Happy Birthday.
The TES Association
(also known as The Eulenspiegel Society) founded the NY S/ M Film
Festival in 2000— the first of which ran from October 3rd to 7th
2000, and an expanded second festival ran from October 2nd to 6th
2001. The purpose of the film festival is to entertain, enlighten
and provoke discussion both within the existing S/M and Leather
communities and among the curious.
TES Members Meeting, May 14, 2002 – Short Summary
by John
One of the
three annual meetings of the Membership of TES was held on May 14,
2002. With TES membership standing at 1089, 100 members would have
had to be present for a quorum to transact new business, but only
94 were present (or submitted proxies). There were enough ballots
to achieve quorum on Bylaws change proposals, and one was passed
(vote: 75-21-2), #26, to shorten the deadlines for future Bylaws
change proposals. Two other propositions failed: #24, to change
requirements to achieve Emeritus status (9-92-0) and #25, to allow
the Parliamentarian to vote to break ties (19-80-2).
The meeting
received reports from all the TES committees; and members could
ask questions and make statements. Committees reported that: there
are no Grievances in progress; the 2002 Film Festival will be October
8-12, and be similar to last year’s; financially, TES is “holding
its own” with a $300 loss in the first quarter, and $26,419 in checking
and savings accounts; the IRS is auditing TES’ tax returns; the
TES Newsletter is going to an electronic distribution basis (members
may “opt-out” to continue to receive a paper copy); the Program
Committee announced a series of upcoming Workshops, and a “Lolitafest”
of presentations by Lolita, plus more careful checking before Tuesday
meetings and Workshops to make sure presenters will appear; Prometheus
#39 is in the mail and #40 is in production; LPN is June 22, and
NCSF remains the major benefactor; members were asked to publicize
the TES Weekly e-newsletter, available to anyone; please support
the Socials: next one, May 31.
Members took
the floor to ask about the TES 30 investigation (on hold until any
legal action is finished, but none is in progress, nor are there
any lawsuits); about the investigation into possible misuse of members’
email addresses for sending advertising (the Board decided to take
no action after receiving the investigator’s report); Morgan Lewis
announced her upcoming retirement from the Board after 23 years’
service, but noted that she would still be active in TES; there
were questions regarding whether the membership is declining (not
clear).
