ONLINE – Emotional First Aid For Kinksters with Ember Solaris

What’s in your emotional first aid kit? First coined by Guy Winch, the term emotional first aid refers to a set of skills used to respond to emotional injuries we ourselves or others may experience. The first responses to a situation can drastically affect the outcome, whether it’s responding to your partner losing their job, or someone you know who has experienced a major consent violation. Take moments of pain and turn them into opportunities for connection. In this class, you will learn and practice easy steps for assessing situations, responding appropriately, and the next steps to take; all while protecting yourself from being emotionally injured or further injured. Practical application is discussed for kink communities/dynamics and addresses some of the emotional injuries that are unique to our spaces.

Ember Solaris has been active in the BDSM community for about a decade. They are a social scientist, psychologist, neuroscientist, and social worker. They research emotions/emotion regulation, interpersonal relationships, trauma, addictive behaviors, etc. They are also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Interpersonal Therapy, the Gottman Approach, and more, but do not currently practice. They primarily work in academic research. Ember dabbles in professional BDSM. They have a Primal Mate dynamic with their partner, and explore the boundaries of S&M/Edge Play, Primal Play, Femdom, and many other interests with their play partners.
