This introductory class discusses being a trauma-aware kinkster. From being awareness of spacing and distance to setting up a play space and write advertisements for events, all kinksters can use trauma-informed mindfulness to create safer spaces. You will learn what trauma is (and what it isn’t), how it happens, about trauma dumping, trauma reactions, post-traumatic growth, secondary trauma, intergenerational/racial trauma, trauma from violence, trauma experienced by BIPOC/LGBTQIA+/minority individuals, and more. What’s in your emotional first aid kit? First coined by Guy Winch, the term emotional first aid refers to a set of skills used to respond to emotional injuries we ourselves or others may experience. The first responses to a situation can drastically affect the outcome, whether it’s responding to your partner losing their job, or someone you know who has experienced a major consent violation. Take moments of pain and turn them into opportunities for connection.
