One of the most misunderstood and under explored subgroups of the kink community is fetish workers. Addiction and harm reduction Re-Charge, a new health and wellness program affiliated with GMHC for people who use crystal meth, is an open, sex-positive, safe-space to learn about safer crystal meth use and explore a strategy that works for you. Constructed with the permission of barkas, this class is my own personal interpretation of the Rope Interview. This class will explore rope as a means of power exchange. This does not necessarily mean power dynamic, power exchange can be as simple as the tying partner setting a tone of “I will tie you” and the tied partner agreeing to that tone, “I will let you tie me”. We will examine how to create, develop and maintain this exchange with rope through the metaphor of asking questions and an analysis of our own non-verbal signals. Students will learn how to pick up on their partner’s signals and discover how their own behaviors may be interpreted by their partner. We will utilize a variety of ippon-nawa (one rope) exercises and if time allows apply the concepts to a patterned tie. The class will consist of a brief discussion on the concepts central to the rope interview, a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises.
