ONLINE – Art of the Scene: Crafting the Moment

LGBT Community Center 208 W 13th St, New York

A well-crafted scene is more than just a sequence of actions—it’s a dance of intention, sensation, and connection. This class explores the art of designing and executing compelling scenes with purpose, creativity, and mindfulness. Whether spontaneous or meticulously planned, a great scene balances structure with fluidity, intensity with care, and precision with artistry.   What You’ll Learn: The Flow of a Scene – Understanding the beginning (preparation & meditation), middle (sensory engagement, intensity building, and surprises), and end (closure & aftercare). Art of Scene Writing – Moving beyond spur-of-the-moment play to create structured, intentional experiences. Key Elements of a Scene: Scene summary and defining cast roles Timeline and pacing Props and environmental setup Risk identification and mitigation Understanding limits—medical, physical, and emotional Choreographing movement and interaction The power of music and playlist selection as a timekeeper The importance of aftercare and reintegration   The class will include discussions, practical insights, and a case study of a complex scene involving all the items above.
